The activities contribute to the main objective by preparing refugees, asylum seekers and status holders for the Dutch labor market with personal intake interviews, customized CVs and personal development plans, and help with the recognition of foreign diplomas, so that they are better positioned for suitable work.
The main activities are:
- Personal intake interviews to identify background, skills and needs.
- Preparation of a clear resume and a personal development plan (PDP) focused on appropriate work.
- Facilitate the revaluation of diplomas obtained abroad.
For Refugees & Asylum Seekers:
This is an activity which our foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" is going to start. We want to be present in every AZC, regular and emergency shelter location. Our goal is to have 1 volunteer per location who will act as a point of contact, and can/will carry out the activities. This volunteer is a resident of the reception location. So a refugee or an asylum seeker. From the "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" we will train, train and supervise this volunteer, allowing this volunteer to gain valuable knowledge and experience, so that they can find a job more easily later. The work is similar to that of a recruiter, for whom there are many open vacancies and we expect this volunteer to have a paid job as a recruiter within 6 months. In addition, we want to appoint 1 or more volunteers who will support AZCs and CNOs centrally from the headquarters that do not have a local volunteer yet.
Appointing a volunteer as a recruiter is beneficial for the volunteer, but also has major advantages for the asylum seekers at the reception location. They have a fixed point of contact who can speak to them from their own experience. This volunteer is part of the same group and culture and may therefore be able to achieve more than just an “outsider”.
For Status Holders and Ukrainians:
This is an activity that our foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" also starts with. Our goal is a few volunteers who work within the foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" start working and act as a point of contact, and can/will carry out the activities. This volunteer is preferably a status holder and must be based in the Netherlands. From the foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" we will educate, train and supervise this volunteer, allowing this volunteer to gain valuable knowledge and experience, so that they can find a job more easily later and we expect that such a volunteer finds a paid job within 6 months as a recruiter. The work is similar to that of a recruiter, for whom there are many open vacancies.

Free or subsidized Dutch language and culture lessons, mainly focused on communication in the workplace specifically for our target group, and workshops about the Dutch labor market, (work) culture and manners, help to effectively prepare refugees, asylum seekers and status holders for their integration and participation in the Dutch labor market.
The main activities are:
- Free or subsidized Dutch language lessons and mainly focused on communication in the workplace specific to our target group.
- Workshops about the Dutch labor market, (work) culture and manners.
This activity will be started second. In the beginning, it will be much more like referring to existing language and culture lessons and workshops. But we foresee that our foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" will also organize all or part of this yourself, if it appears that there are no suitable and cost-effective solutions on the market.
03.
Workshops for application techniques and interviewing skills, as well as facilitating free or affordable certifications for specific occupations, help refugees, asylum seekers and status holders to increase their employment opportunities and successfully integrate into the Dutch labor market.
The main activities are:
- Workshops for interview techniques and interviewing skills.
- Facilitate free or affordable certifications for specific occupations.
This activity will also be started as a second. In the beginning, it will be much more like referring to existing workshops. But we foresee that the foundation "Stichting Vluchtelingen Werkintegratie" will also organize all or part of this yourself. With regard to the certifications, reference will be made to existing courses & training courses.
04.
When starting a new job, intensive guidance is crucial to lay a good foundation. For our target group, for whom a lot is new, this is even more important. Although training and information are valuable, the practice often appears to be different. Personal mentoring and coaching help new workers adapt and integrate more successfully. It's about the experience of the worker himself, colleagues and the manager. The more appropriate guidance in the beginning, the greater the chance of a sustainable working relationship.
The main activities are:
- Assigning volunteers as mentors for personal guidance for people who are at work.
- Regular coaching and guidance sessions to discuss progress and adjust goals.
We expect that in the second half of 2024, there will be a great need for mentoring and coaching when people start working.
05.
Volunteers who work in an AZC, CNO, or at the central office can act as interpreters for the foundation's work-related activities. This includes, for example, supporting intake interviews with potential employers, employment agencies and other parties involved. These activities are only carried out from the location or online, and never physically at other locations, to ensure the volunteer's privacy; this is in line with the way Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland works.
06.
Company visits offer refugees and asylum seekers the opportunity to immediately gain knowledge and insight about the Dutch work culture and business processes. This hands-on experience gives them a better understanding of what is expected of them in a work environment, helping them adapt faster and more effectively. In addition, during these visits, they can build networks and meet potential employers, which increases their chances of more successful integration into the labor market.
The main activities are:
- Organizing (free) events with local employers and companies.
- Facilitating free company visits to gain knowledge and insight.
This will differ per (childcare) location. We will start pilots with this in the second half of 2024.
07.
Cooperation with local governments, companies, educational institutions and social organizations is essential to promote the integration and economic independence of refugees, asylum seekers and status holders. By collaborating with these parties, our foundation can offer a holistic approach that promotes both the professional and social integration of newcomers.
The main activities are:
- Collaborate with local governments, companies, educational institutions and social organizations.
Organizing community-based events promotes social integration by bringing refugees, asylum seekers and status holders into contact with local communities. These events provide a platform for interaction and exchange between different cultures, increasing mutual understanding and respect. In addition, they help build social networks and relationships, making them feel more at home and integrate more quickly. Working together on common goals and activities breaks down barriers and creates a sense of belonging and community.
The main activities are:
- Organizing community-based events to promote social inclusion.
This will differ per (childcare) location. We will start doing this in pilots in the course of 2024.
08.
Actively seeking donations, subsidies and funds to finance the activities, and transparent communication with donors and grantmakers about the impact and results, ensure that the foundation has sustainable financial resources and builds trust with its supporters.
The main activities are:
- Actively seek donations, grants, and funds to fund activities.
- Transparent communication with donors and grantmakers about the impact and results.
We will immediately start fundraising, donations, and grants.
